During these times of uncertainty, Seed Analytics aspires to remove admin, order fragmented information and provide a service that allows you to run a high-quality, differentiated service.

Finding the file

Seed Analytics has produced lockdown files for all our advisors with no extra fee. The file is available under file portal.  The lockdown client provides a list of clients on your book ordered by risk.

Calculating risk

The risk is calculated by a combination of loss of an investment over the entire portfolio based on investment vehicle returns and the age of the portfolio holder. The data source for this view is not the returns from the investment platform but rather per investment as sourced from morning star.

In short, if the portfolio is showing a high risk then your clients urgently need to be guided by healthy, mature advice at this stage.

Breakdown of the file

The lockdown client list contains the following fields. Here is a description of these fields:

  • Person : The portfolio belongs to a person with an ID or passport number;
  • Trust : The portfolio belongs to a trust
  • Unknown : The portfolio could belong to a company or other entity
Age   Age of the owner of the portfolio as calculated by the ID number of the owner. Trusts, therefore, cannot have an age.
Portfolio_Total_AUM    The total value of the portfolio
Confidence_in_Estimate

The return information for this data set is derived from Morning Star on a fund level. This view is different from the normal returns we calculate which is gathered directly on the account level.

Sometimes Morning Star doesn't have the investment information we need, other times the investment simply isn't mapped on investment codes that Morning Star uses. These codes are called "ISIN" code. As a result, the confidence in estimate informs, per portfolio, how much of the consolidated portfolio we were able to get investment level return information for.

  • High: If 80% of all investments on portfolio have a return value then the confidence is high. We have a lot of information on the portfolio to work with.
  • Medium: If we have between 50% and 80% of the returns on the investment
  • Low: If we have less than 50% of the returns on the investment

Even if the confidence in the estimate is low - if your client is marked as high risk it's worth contacting them to give them the assurance that you, the advisor, are managing that part of the investment on their behalf.

Risk_Indicator   Age over 50 and loss is more than 7.5% or more or any age and the loss is greater than 15%
Age_Categories   The age bracket of the owner of the portfolio
Loss_CategoriesIndicates the type of loss they could be facing in the current month.
